March 15, 2021
Last Thursday in General Santos City, more than 25 organizations joined in the Multi-Stakeholder RTD organized by IAG under its Political Party Building & Development Program implemented in partnership with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy with support from the UK Government. The RTD was an opportunity for CSOs, the BTA, the Bangsamoro Electoral Office, and election watchdogs such as NAMFREL and LENTE to raise issues concerning the major electoral reforms being pursued in the region.
The multi-stakeholder dialogue also gave the CSOs the platform to ask questions before the BTA MPs and the regional election director of the BEO pertaining to the status of the Bangsamoro Electoral Code and other important updates relating to future elections in the region. This was followed by a comprehensive presentation from Atty. Carlo Africa wherein he presented in detail the draft Bangsamoro Electoral Code of the Legal Network for Truthful Elections also known as LENTE.
A panel discussion participated in by election monitors such as NAMFREL and MARADECA was held in the afternoon to spark conversations on the priority electoral reforms Bangsamoro CSOs will pursue and the opportunities through which they can help ensure clean and honest elections in the region. The BARMM CSOs were likewise asked how the postponement of the 2022 elections will affect their agenda and the important work that they do in the region. |
